Obituary of Robert Stanton

Robert Oran Stanton, 90, of Basking Ridge, NJ passed away on February 19, 2017 at Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge. Funeral services will be held at Fellowship Hall, 6000 Fellowship Rd, Basking Ridge, NJ on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Ian Rankine officiating. For further information please contact Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, Basking Ridge, or to light an online condolence for the family please visit www.gcfuneralhome.com Robert was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Walter and Maisie (Hauger) Stanton on November 15 1926. He served his country during World War II in the US Army being stationed in the Philippines. After his discharge, he attended the University of Pittsburgh, graduating with a B.S. degree in zoology in 1949. He then attended Carnegie Mellon University from which he received a Masters in Library Science degree in 1951. He was employed at Bell Laboratories primarily in Murray Hill, NJ, ending his career in 1991 as Manager, Operations Department of the Libraries and Information Center. Robert played a leading role in the partitioning of proprietary technical information between AT&T and the various daughter companies created as part of the brake-up of AT&T in the early 1980's Robert is survived by his four children Carolyn Pollak, Diana, Tom and David, and his six grandchildren, Jason Hoffman, Kevin, Emily and Kerry Justich, Dan Della Badia and Matthew. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Madalyn (Pugh) Stanton. Memorial donations may be made to the Great Swamp Watershed Association, P.O.Box 300, New Vernon, NJ 07976.
