Obituary of John R Redmond
Bernardsville, NJ - John R. (Jack) Redmond, Jr., 61, died at his home on Sunday, February 5, 2017 after a courageous four-year battle with brain cancer.
Jack was born and raised in Llewellyn Park, West Orange. The oldest of six children born to Claire and John R. Redmond, Sr (both deceased), he graduated from Newark Academy in 1973 and Villanova University in 1977. After three years in the Information Technology industry, Jack enrolled in Dartmouth College's Amos Tuck School, where he earned an MBA in 1985. Upon graduation from Tuck, he began a 26 year career in finance, beginning as an investment banker with Prudential-Bache Securities in New York, moving from there to co-found a "long only" hedge fund, MacAllister-Redmond and, ultimately, retiring from A. Gary Schilling & Co in 2011.
Jack married the love of his life, the former Nancy Fagan, in 1984. They have 3 children, John, III, Matthew, and Kate, all of whom live in Brooklyn, NY. Jack was a loving brother to Robert of North Palm Beach, Fla, Suzanne Anderson of Essex Fells, NJ, Richard, also of Essex Fells, Paul of Bernardsville, NJ and Ruth Bloom, Essex Fells. He was a friend to everyone he encountered.
While the Capital Markets and the broad field of investments captured his professional interests, it was his lifelong love of music, whether as an astute listener, self-taught guitarist and performer which truly defined him. The capstone of his multifaceted relationship with music was his formation in 2007 of a daily newsletter dedicated to the appreciation of guitar-based rock, blues and bluegrass music. His TOTD ("Tune-of-the-day") featured a daily selection from his massive digital library, usually accompanied by images and insightful commentary about the artist or musician, which circulated to nearly 500 avid followers. While Jack has been lost to this world, his TOTD Nation lives on under the auspices of several understudies and guest DJs.
He fought this disease in the same manner in which he lived his life; with indefatigable courage, dignity and grace. His wishes were to be remembered in a music filled celebration of his life, which will take place in the early spring, 2017.
