Obituary of Prima L Velasquez

Prima L. Velasquez died peacefully at the age of 87 on January 1, 2017, at the House of Good Shepherd, Hackettstown, NJ Prima Velasquez was born in Calamba, Laguna, Philippines, the youngest daughter of Saturnino and Silvina Lirio. She received her Bachelor's degree in Education from Far Eastern University. She married at the age of 33 to Jesus P. Velasquez on September 9, 1962. She taught English and Home Economics at Magsaysay High School and owned a Gravel and Sand business with her husband, who was a CPA. Jesus and Prima immigrated to the United States with their three children in 1974. Prima worked as a school lunch dietician for the New York Board of Education. However, she found success as a part-time insurance sales representative for MetLife. In pursuit of the American dream, she worked two jobs for many years until her career at MetLife enabled her to earn enough to quit her dietician job. She enjoyed meeting new people and was loved by all her clients. A beloved wife and mother, she was devoted to providing a good life for her family. Mrs. Velasquez was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Jesus P. Velasquez, and is survived by her three children, Jaime L. Velasquez of Bethlehem, PA, Annie V. Ortiz of Hackettstown, NJ, and Jouel L. Velasquez of Huntersville, NC, daughters in law Paz and Karen, and six grandchildren, Matthew, Nicholas, Aidan, Adam, Jodi, and Jaci Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ, from 2:00 – 4:00pm & 6:00 – 8:00pm. A second day visitation will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2017 from 2:00 – 4:00pm & 6:00 – 8:00pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017, 10:00am, at St. James Church, 184 South Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ.
