Obituary of Alice G Lewis
Alice G. Lewis, passed away on September 20, 2016 at Care One of Hanover after a short but brave battle with cancer, Born in 1932, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ivan, and her sister, Rosemary.
A devout Catholic and communicant of St. James Church, Basking Ridge, Alice served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Rosary Altar Society. In addition, she was a fifty year member of the Columbiettes.
Alice and her husband raised one son in Basking Ridge before moving to West Amwell. Alice moved back to Basking Ridge twenty years ago following the death of her husband, settling in Ridge Oak. A retiree of the United States Postal Service, Alice had worked for many years in the Basking Ridge, Ringoes and Rocky Hill post offices.
Following her retirement Alice vowed to continue "doing something" and volunteered full time at the School of St. Elizabeth in Bernardsville and then Immaculata High School in Somerville. She had a special fondness for all the Immaculata marching band students, and chaperoned them for everything from football games to band camp to trips to Disney World. Alice was greatly loved and known simply as "Grandma Lew" to legions of Spartan Marching Band alumni.
Left to cherish her memory are her son Christopher (Deborah), grandson, Kevin, granddaughter Casey (Matthew McDonald) and great grandsons Gregory and Patrick. She is also survived by her sister, Virginia.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. James Church, 184 S. Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge on Monday, September 26, at 11:00am. Burial will be private.
