I will remember Don for our many theoretical mathematical discussions, for introducing me to Bertrend Russell and for his enthusiasm and passion for ancient history.
I will remember Don for his penetrating blue eyes that would focus totally on the speaker giving you his undivided attention. He taught me what it means to be an excellent listener. To really listen to others, one must have an underlying respect for people. I will remember Don as the gentleman, always polite and respectful.
I will remember Don for the importance he placed on family. Never did a conversation with Don begin or end where he did not ask after my family. But perhaps most of all, I will remember Don for the love he had for his family, ranging from how proud he was that Ann was by his side to their dog's favorite ice cream flavor.
Intelligent, loyal, caring, with a sense of humor---
I have never been so proud as when Don Harrington called me friend.
Rest in peace my friend.

Dear Ann & Don, Jr,
My deepest condolences to you and your family. I was shocked to learn of Don's passing. We had just spoken not too long ago. I count myself one of the lucky ones to have known Don, working for him and with him and even became a member of his extended family. Don taught me so much and we had a long, exciting relationship at AT&T and ASA - I believe 16 years! Christmas will not be the same without Don & Ann's annual Christmas call. I believe my best remembrance of Don will be the planning of his retirement on the Intrepid in NYC. An affair to remember!
Don, rest in peace, my friend. You will be sorely missed and always in my thoughts and prayers!
Sinceely,
Gerri Mazalewski

I learned of Don's passing with sadness, but also with appreciation of knowing and working with for many years. He was a great intellectual mentor to me. We worked on many tough issues and problems together and hopefully resolved many successfully, generally with most of the contribution to that success coming from Don. Most important, Don was passionate about and dedicated to trying to figure out the right thing to do in any situation and then working hard to see that was what happened. He searched for what the ancient philosophers referred to as the truth, virtue and beauty that exists in the world. In this regard, he was probably relatively unique among those he dealt with at work and in life because he always measured his actions with that seach in mind. I have admired much about Don for a long time. We had lost touch with one another in recent years, but we have lost a unique friend and colleague and, for the family, a loved one. He cared much about his family, especially the wife he talked about in glowing and wondrous terms on many occasions, but also his staff and colleagues at work. The world has lost a good person and my sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. My best to Don on his next journey.
