Obituary of Florence L Bird

Florence (MacArthur) Bird, of Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge, passed to her eternal reward on Tuesday, May 3. She was 94. The cause of death was the lingering after-effects of Guillian Barre Syndrome. She is survived by her husband of 74 years, J. Douglas Bird, and daughter, Barbara Bird. Her beloved son, Robert, predeceased her. When she lived in Summit, NJ, Florence was active in the Town Club and Central Presbyterian Church. She volunteered for many years at Overlook Hospital, mainly in the Chaplain's Office. She will be remembered for her caring personality and warm smile. Her lifelong hobby was any form of needlework. Early on, she did sewing and tailoring. Since childhood, she always had multiple projects of embroidery, crewel, needlepoint, counted cross stitch, knitting and crocheting in the works. Services will be held Monday, May 9 at Gallaway and Crane in Basking Ridge. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am, and service at 11:30. Interment is in Chatham, NJ thereafter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Salvation Army or St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Shelter in Madison.
