Obituary of Leonard Robert Moore

Dr. Leonard R. Moore a retired Prosthodontist and Diplomat of the American Board of Prosthodontics from Basking Ridge NJ passed away on 4/9/2016, at 95 years old. Dr. Moore was from Newark NJ and grew up in Union. Dr. Moore attended Temple University Dental School and graduated with honors. He then attended the NYU School of Dentistry and obtained his certification in Denture Prosthetics and Research. He served the US Army in WWII, then the Korean War in the US Public Health Service and as a Captain in the US Army Dental Corp. Dr. Moore started his career in Union (1944), and moved his practice to Summit from which he retired (1994). His academic appointments included Fairleigh Dickenson University Dental School (1957-1980). In 1973 he founded the Prosthodontics program at FDU and was a clinical Professor and the Director of the Department of Post Graduate Prosthodontics. His hospital appointments included The VA hospital, Lyons, Overlook Hospital Summit, Beth Israel hospital, Newark, United Hospitals and All Soul's Hospital, Morristown. His Fellowships included the American College of Dentists, American Prosthodontic Society, Greater NY Academy of Prosthodontics and American College of Prosthodontics. His Professional affiliations and past Presidencies included The American Dental Association, the Union county Dental Society, NJ Section, American College of Prosthodontics, NJ Section, Omicron Kappa Upsilon, Greater NY Academy of Prosthodontics, and NJ Section American College of Dentists. In 2011, nominated and elected by his colleagues, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award recognizing his commitment to Prosthodontics and celebrating the success of his more than 50 year practice. Leonard is survived by his wife Anne of Basking Ridge, his daughter and son-in-law Louise and Robert Solomon, D.P.M, his daughter Alice, son William, grandson Jaxon Solomon all from Kinnelon, NJ and his grandson Maxwell Solomon from Horseshoe Bay, TX. The memorial will be held on April 20, 2016 at 2:00PM at the Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. Shiva immediately following the Memorial at 16 Deerfield Court Basking Ridge NJ. Shiva will also be on Thursday, 4/21 from 2PM – 7:30PM.
