Obituary of Maureen DeMaio-Esteves

Maureen DeMaio Esteves of Bridgewater, New Jersey, passed peacefully on February 16, 2016 surrounded by her family. A service in honor of this extraordinary woman will be held at Somerset Hills Memorial Park in Basking Ridge on Saturday, February 20th at 10:30 AM. Post Colonia High School, NJ she earned her BS in Nursing from Lehman College (CUNY). She continued her education at NYU earning a Masters and PhD in Nursing Education. Maureen made a lifelong commitment to nursing education at Rutgers. For nearly 35 years she served on the faculty as an educator, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education, Associate Dean for Special Projects, and advocate for educational initiatives in nursing education. Among her many awards Maureen most recently received the NJ State Nursing Students Inc. Deans Award and the 2014 March of Dimes Nurse Educator Award. This scholar – educator will always be remembered for her positive leadership and her enduring influence on the nursing community, family, and friends. This past year she has paid forward to Rutgers Cancer Institute as speaker and advocate for bone marrow transplant patients. Maureen will be greatly missed at Rutgers and by the nursing community at large, her students, colleagues, friends and family. She is predeceased by her father, Laurence. Maureen is survived by her devoted husband, Ray, and her loving son, Matthew, as well as her mother, Dorothy, and siblings Michele (Joe), Larry (Olga), Diane (Steven) and Jimmy, and many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins.
