Obituary of Nicholas J Malta

Nicholas J. Malta (Nick) was born in 1925 in Jersey City, raised his two sons in Union and later lived in Summit, New Providence, Lebanon, and finally, Basking Ridge. He died Monday, August 3, 2015 at The Center For Hope Hospice, Scotch Plains, NJ. Nick was pre-deceased by his parents, Joseph and Louise (Manasseri) Malta and is survived by his former wife, Ann Plakcy of Clark, NJ; his two sons, Joseph (Jennifer) Malta, Bethel, CT; William Malta (fiancé Denise Cappuccio), Basking Ridge, NJ; his loving grandchildren, Michael (Cira) Malta, Bethel, CT; Danielle (Anthony) Fernandes, Danbury, CT; Christopher (Christina) Malta, Arlington, VA; Marissa (Anthony) Caruso, DuPont, WA; Matthew Malta, Bridgewater, NJ; as well as two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Benjamin Fernandes, Danbury, CT. He is also survived by his sister, Marian (Harry) Tsistina and brother-in-law, Sam Fasciano (pre-deceased by his sister Tanna Fasciano). He is also survived by his niece, Annette Fasciano, Chatham, NJ and nephew, John (Celia) Fasciano, Basking Ridge, NJ as well as many friends he considered "family." Nick graduated from Dickinson High School in Jersey City, NJ and then enlisted in the US Air Force, having served in WWII from 1943 to 1946. He was employed by Colgate-Palmolive and the Star Ledger (New York Times) and was retired for many years. He was dedicated to his family; he loved his sons and their families and is remembered for his engaging personality, helping others and giving generously. Nick was "gramps" to his grandchildren's many friends and always went the extra mile to support local businesses. His passions were family, friends and food. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, August 7 at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave. Basking Ridge. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2015, 10:00am at St. James Roman Catholic Church, 184 S. Finley Ave. Basking Ridge. Cremation will be private.
