Obituary of Joseph F Safaryn

Joseph F. Safaryn Loving husband, father, and grandfather; former Mayor of Roselle Joseph F. Safaryn, 87, of Seaside Park, NJ and Basking Ridge, NJ passed away on Monday, April 6. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 9 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ. All friends and family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. James R.C. Church, 184 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 11a.m. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge. He was a graduate of St. Peter's Preparatory School and St. Peter's College in Jersey City, NJ. He received a Master of Business Administration degree from NYU and a Juris Doctorate degree from Seton Hall University School of Law. He worked in the pharmaceutical industry for more than 30 years with Hoffmann-La Roche and Berlex Laboratories. He was an usher and lector at St. Joseph the Carpenter Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus and involved in many organizations in Roselle and Union County. Joseph served as the mayor of the Borough of Roselle, NJ from 1992 through 1996. In his retirement, Joseph greatly enjoyed the summers with his grandchildren at his home in Seaside Park. Joseph is survived by his wife of 58 years, Phyllis W. Safaryn; his son, Dr. John E. Safaryn and his wife Elaine of Moorestown, NJ; and his daughter, Susan S. Conroy and her husband Sean of Basking Ridge, NJ. Joseph was the beloved "Pop-Pop" to his four grandchildren: Christopher, Erin and Ryan Conroy and Elizabeth Safaryn. He is also survived by his sister-in law, Doris Wagner, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his six brothers and sisters, Hedwig Newton, Helen Sheridan, Regina Troglour, Edward Safaryn, Henry Safaryn and Frances Halik.
