Obituary of Ruth Elizabeth Carroll

Ruth Elizabeth Carroll (March 22,1917 – March 8, 2015) Ruth Elizabeth Carroll (nee Roland) was born in Paterson, New Jersey on March 22, 1917. Her parents were Philip Roland and Elizabeth Matthews. She attended Paterson public schools and graduated from Eastside High School in 1936. She met her husband Daniel J. Carroll in Paterson and following service in the US Navy during WWII he became a fireman in Paterson retiring as a Deputy Chief in 1979. Ruth worked as a bookkeeper at Ferraro Food Market in the People's Park section of Paterson for a short period before having a nearly 40 year career in a similar function for the Crown Motor Freight Company that was headquartered in Paterson. After retirement she lived in Del Ray Beach and Lantana, Florida; Lakewood, and Wayne New Jersey. She was a resident in the Assisted Living section of Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge, New Jersey for the past 6 years. Ruth had an active life and loved to dance, swim, sunbathe, bowl and play golf. She often led the singing at group functions and parties. She vacationed with her family during the summer at Wildwood, Sea Isle City and Manasquan, New Jersey. She was excellent at crossword puzzles well into her 90's. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Daniel, 2 daughters Ruth and Joan and an older brother Raymond. She is survived by her son Daniel and his wife Mary Lou of Bernards Township, New Jersey, 5 grandchildren,11 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandsons. Arrangements were handled by Galloway and Crane Funeral Home in Basking Ridge. Memorial gifts may be made to the Basking Ridge or Liberty Corner First Aid Squads.
