Obituary of Edward Francis Sharkey

Edward F. "Ted" Sharkey, 85, passed away January 22, 2015. He was born November 27,1929 in Tibohine, Co. Roscommon, Ireland, the sixth of nine children of Patrick and Mary Jane (nee McDermott) Sharkey. Ted immigrated to the United States in 1950, settling in West Orange, NJ. He was a carpenter and building contractor. He started his career as an apprentice carpenter for P.J. Grant Co. in West Orange, where he spent his entire career, eventually acquiring the company in 1976. He lived in West Orange, Verona, Barnegat Township and finally at The Chelsea in Bridgewater, NJ. Ted was a member of The Rotary Club of West Orange, The Shillelagh Club of West Orange, and The Irish American Society of the Oranges. Ted loved spending time with family and friends, and was an avid golfer throughout his life. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Bridget (nee Bradley) Sharkey; his children: Mary and son-in-law Hugh Gleason of Fairfield, CT, Eileen and son-in-law Kevin McGarry of Eatontown, NJ, and John Sharkey and daughter-in-law Carol Wrenn of Bernardsville, NJ; eight grandchildren, Angela Faasen, Stephen McGarry, Brianna McGarry, Patrick Gleason, Andrew Gleason, Audrey Looram, Elizabeth Sharkey, and Megan Sharkey; three great grandchildren; a brother Dermot Sharkey, a sister Marian Dittman and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Vincent, Patrick, Noel and Alfie and his sisters Kathleen Byrne and Una Bennett. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, N.J. from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Seney Drive, Bernardsville, NJ on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 10:00am. Entombment will follow the funeral at Holy Cross Cemetery Basking Ridge, NJ.
