Obituary of Luke J Haran

Luke J. Haran, Jr. of Basking Ridge passed away on Oct. 7, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 25,1943 in Boston, MA, a son of the late Katherine Haran and Luke J Haran, Sr. He was educated at Berkshire School in Sheffield, MA and was awarded their Distinguished Alumni Award in 2012. He went on to attend Yale University, graduating with a BA in Latin American Studies in 1965. He continued his education at Stanford University where he earned an MBA in 1970. He then moved to New York to begin a career in investment banking, first at Lehman Brothers from 1970-1974, then at Merrill Lynch from 1974-1989. At Merrill he served as Managing Director and Head of Latin American Investment Banking. Later, Luke served as partner at Prospect Street Investment Management, President of Serfin Securities S.A. and Managing Director of Citicorp Cross Border Finance Group. Luke served on the board of trustees of the Berkshire School and the New Hampton School, NH where he was chairman of their finance committee. He also served on the board of the Student Partnership Alliance in NJ. He is survived by his wife, Lynda of Basking Ridge and son, Devin of New York City. He is also survived by two brothers, Jeffrey and John Haran and one sister, Pamela Haran Godkin as well as seven nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass in celebration of his life will be held at 12 pm on Saturday, November 15th at the Church of St. James in Basking Ridge.
