Obituary of Sailing Kincaid Hayward

Sailing K Hayward, 75, of Basking Ridge, passed away on Monday June 21, 2010 at his home after a six year battle with cancer. He was born in New York City and raised in Scarsdale, NY. While at Scarsdale High, he met and began dating his future wife Sue. She was attracted to him by his wonderful sense of humor. The family moved to Basking Ridge in 1971. He Graduated from Lehigh University with a Bachelor's Degree in industrial psychology. Sailing served his Country in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1956-1958. He worked for the Crum and Forster Group in Convent Station for 32 years before retiring. Tennis was his passion and he coached boy's tennis at Ridge High school for many years in retirement. He also spent the next 16 years with Coldwell Banker in Bernardsville. The family joined the Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church in 1972 where, over the years, he served as a Trustee, Deacon and Elder. An Eagle Scout, he served as Committee Chairman of Troop 54 for many years, seeing both of his sons also attain the Eagle rank. Sailing is survived by his wife of 51 years Susan D Hayward, two sons James A Hayward and wife Janene of Sicklerville, NJ and Scott K. Hayward and wife Tara of Ho Ho Kus, NJ, and two daughters Catherine A. Hayward of Carrolton, OH and Sandra L Berg and husband John, of Pine, CO., seven grandchildren William and Corinne Hayward, Andrew and Kelly Hayward, and Adalise, Callie Rose, and Jack Berg, as well as one brother H. Read Hayward, of Benicia, Ca. A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 26, 2010 at 11:00am at the Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church, 45 Church St, Liberty Corner, NJ followed by interment in the Church Cemetery.
