Obituary of Janice Johnston

Janice Bartlett Johnston, 73, Resident of New Vernon Janice “Jan” Bartlett Johnston passed away peacefully on October 23, 2013 at her home in New Vernon. She was 73. Born on July 16, 1940 in Trenton, Jan lived for the past 47 years in New Vernon. She graduated from Temple University School of Nursing in 1961 and spent 38 years of her nursing career at Morristown Memorial Hospital before retiring in 2002. In 1963, she married Ronald L. Johnston. They recently celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. In 1974, Jan became a charter member of the New Vernon Volunteer First Aid Squad where she served her community for 26 years and was made a Life Member after her term of active service. For many years, Jan was key in managing the sporting goods section of the annual New Vernon Volunteer Fire Department Auction; a job that she looked forward to each year. Jan loved life and was proud of her career in nursing, her volunteer work, and her family. She very much liked living in New Vernon amongst many friends, where she tended her gardens, enjoyed baking and cooking, and walks in the woods. Most of all, Jan loved caring for her family: her husband Ronald; daughter Lynn, now in Seattle; and son Bradford, in Basking Ridge.
