Obituary of James W Beringer

James W Beringer, 91, of Bernardsville, NJ passed away on Wednesday June 12, 2013 at the Fellowship Village Nursing Home. James was a lifelong resident of Bernardsville, NJ. He was a Letter Carrier for 43 years for the Bernardsville Post Office. James served his country proudly in the United States Navy during WWII and the Korean wars. He was a life member of the American Legion post #216, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Chapter Adjutant VFW Post #7858. A Charter and life member Nation D Day, New Orleans, Charter and life member of National WWII Memorial, Washing DC. He was a life member of the N.J. State Firemen’s Association, distinguished past president of Kiwanis Fellow. James was a recipient in the first group to receive the outstanding volunteerism award in 1989. Bernardsville Mayor and Council declared September 20, 2002, Jim Beringer Day. James joined the Bernardsville Fire Company in 1941 and was the oldest ex Chief and the first to follow his father as a Chief. He was predeceased by his wife Doris in January, 1988, and daughter Carol in 1992. James is survived by his two daughters Cindy Beringer and Gail Moose, two granddaughters Shari and Katie Moose, two sisters Betty Walsh and her husband Bob and Pat Gilpin and a nephew Scott Gilpin and family. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday June 18, 2013 at 11:00am at the St. Bernards Episcopal Church, Bernardsville, NJ, followed by burial in the St. Bernards Cemetery, Bernardsville, NJ. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family on Monday, June 17, 2013 from 3-7pm at the Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920.
