Obituary of Ann McNamara
Ann Joan McNamara (nee Hayden) passed away peacefully on April 11, 2024 at the age of 89.
Ann was born in New York City to parents Maureen and Anthony, both of Ireland. She graduated from St. John’s University with a degree in Business, and not long after married Thomas and started their family in Queens, NY. Moving to New Jersey in the early 1960s, they first resided in Parsippany before settling for good in Basking Ridge in 1973.
Ann worked in the restaurant and hospitality industry (Old Mill Inn, Basking Ridge, NJ) for a time until finding a second career at the United States Golf Association in Far Hills for 22 years, retiring at the age of 76. She was dedicated in her work and devoted to her family. Many summers were spent with family in Cape Cod, MA and later, Tom & Ann would become regulars up in Saratoga, NY for the horse racing season. Ann loved meeting everyone involved in the racing industry from the owners, trainers and jockeys, as well as many restaurant owners in the area, and made lasting friendships. There were frequent fun filled trips to Atlantic City, where she enjoyed the restaurants, shows and friendships with the casino employees more than any games of chance. She will be remembered by many.
Ann was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Tom, brother Bert (Ruth), sister Mary (Robert) and survived by her sons Thomas, Marc, Robert (Cherish), daughter Kristine, five grandchildren, Patty, Robin, Craig (Jessica), Brian (Kate) and Brady, and six great-grandchildren. A private interment service will be held with close family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation in Saratoga Springs, NY or The Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund.
Funeral Arrangements have been made private for the family. For further information, or to leave an online condolence message please visit www.gcfuneralhome.com
