Obituary of Walter J Terry
Walter J. Terry, 91, of Basking Ridge, NJ, passed away on March 19, 2024, in Morristown, NJ.
Viewing will be held at Galloway & Crane, Basking Ridge, NJ, on March 26 at 10 AM to 12 PM with Pastor Bob Misiak officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernards Cemetery, Washington Street, Bernardsville, NJ, at 12:30 PM. Galloway & Crane will be handling the funeral arrangements.
Walter James was born in Stirling, NJ, to Oscar and Amelia Terry on August 29, 1932. He went to high school at Bernards High School and joined the Navy in 1951. He was honorably discharged in 1955. He was a Radioman, First Class aboard the USS Tarawa Aircraft Carrier during the Korean Conflict. After the Navy he apprenticed as a Carpenter and worked in construction until he retired. His last position was Job Superintendent for J. Natoli Construction Company. He retired in 1994 and enjoyed being a member of the Garden State V8 and AACA car clubs and showing his 1953 Mercury Monterey.
Walter is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Joan Terry of Basking Ridge, NJ; son James Terry, wife Lori and their son Spencer, wife Alanna; grandson Christopher Schoenberg, wife Erin and their daughter Freya; grandson Daniel Schoenberg; and nephews and nieces Bill Terry, John Quinlan, Cathie Infuso, Barbara Butz, and Dorothy (Dolly) Wilson. He is preceded in death by his daughter Karen J. Terry, his brother Oscar (Ozzie) Terry, sisters Dorothy (Dot) Kunz and Ruth Quinlan, and Ronald Reimers, his Navy buddy of 70 years of Saginaw, Michigan.
