Obituary of Andrew A Gundlach
Basking Ridge- Andy Gundlach passed away peacefully on December 22, 2023 in Basking Ridge, NJ. He had been born in East Orange, NJ to the late Carol and Fritz Gundlach, and grew up in Summit, NJ graduating from Summit High School and earning his BS in Math from Dartmouth College in New Hampshire.
Andy was a well loved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was so proud of his three children and adored his three grandchildren offering them support and love and fun. His favorite places to be in the world were sitting on the porch looking out at the view of a small lake in northern NJ, or riding a bike on Sanibel Island, Fl.
In his student days, Andy excelled in competitive sports, including tennis, skating, gymnastics, and diving. He played soccer, was Co-captain of the Dartmouth Cheering Squad and had leading roles as an actor in both High School and College. But he, perhaps, may be best known for his mischievous side…with pranks his specialty…all in good company!
Always, he loved a challenging game of bridge or cribbage, even when his granddaughters beat him! And he was adept at putting together Legos with his grandson!
Andy had a successful career as a Pension Actuary and was a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries. He was a Partner at KPMG, Peat Marwick and ultimately, CEO of Actuarial Perspectives, Inc.
Andy is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Addie Murphy Gundlach. He will be deeply missed by their children: daughter, Katherine P Gundlach; son, Andrew A. Gundlach II and his wife, Lisa Kluepfel and grandson, Brody; and son, Mark Thomas Gundlach, his wife Wendy Wright Gundlach, and his granddaughters Emma Mackenzie Gundlach, and Brooke Patricia Gundlach. He will also be missed by his brother Thomas Gundlach, and his wife Joanne Gundlach as well as Andy’s sister-in-law Cynthia Murphy, and brother in law Peter Marie.
A Memorial Service to honor Andy’s memory will be held on Saturday, February 10th at 11:30am with a reception immediately following, both at the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church. Please join us to remember Andy’s full and well lived life.
