Janet DeLeo Fitzgerald

(May 19th, 1956 – November 15th, 2023)

Janet DeLeo Fitzgerald, 67, of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.

She was born on May 19, 1956, in Bronxville, NY, to Francis and Angelina (Fay) DeLeo and was raised in Tuckahoe, NY. She spent many years in Miami Beach, Florida, before calling the Basking Ridge area her home for the past 32 years.

Janet was preceded in passing by her parents and sister.

Janet Fitzgerald was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, cherished family member and devoted Catholic. She bravely battled cancer for more than a year. She was surrounded by her husband and daughters as she peacefully passed in her sleep.

In her early career, Janet worked with dedication at Hilton Hotels where she met her husband, Scott, before choosing to become a stay-at-home mom. She found great joy in being with her family and friends, always bringing laughter and love to those around her.

Janet was a cherished member of the Catholic faith, finding strength and solace in her beliefs. She taught CCD for many years at the Church and was a very active parent volunteer for the Ridge High School Marching Band.

Janet is survived by her loving husband of 31 years, Scott Fitzgerald, daughters Alyson Council and her husband Joshua, Emily Fitzgerald, and Nicole Fitzgerald, and her granddaughter Addison Council, as well as other family members, all of whom held a special place in her heart.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey in Janet's memory.

The family expresses gratitude to all who have offered support during this difficult time. Janet will be deeply missed but forever remembered for the love, laughter, and faith she shared with those whose lives she touched. 

Family and Friends are invited to pay their respects at Janet's viewing on Monday, November 20, 2023, from 3 to 6 pm at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. A Funeral Mass to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 10 am at The Church of Saint James, 184 South Finley Avenue in Basking Ridge, followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Basking Ridge.
