Obituary of Charles T Doherty

Charles Doherty of Lake Hiawatha, NJ passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 26th, 2023 surrounded by family. He was 89 years old.

Charles was born in Weehawken, NJ and lived in Newark and Bloomfield before moving to Lake Hiawatha 25 years ago.

 Charles served in the Army and upon discharge worked for Tung Sol Electric and then the Essex County Sheriff's Department until his retirement.

Charles met the love of his life, Elizabeth (Lillian) Doherty in 1953 and they were married on June 15th, 1957. They had 65 wonderful years 'together until her passing in August 2022.

Charles was predeceased by his parents and three sisters and three brothers. He is survived by his daughter, Diane (Michael) Scanniello, and son, Kevin (Patricia deceased). His grandchildren, Jamie (Peter) Gibfried, Robert (Jacqueline) Schneider, Matthew (Debbie) Doherty and Samantha   and Corrine Doherty. Great grandchildren, Madison and Harper Gibfried, Ella Doherty and Colton Doherty and great grandson Schneider on the way. His sisters Margaret Doherty, lta Ferrie and Mary (Art) Markham and his brothers Thomas, Kevin (Rosemary) and Peter (Kathy) and a host of nieces and nephews.  

Charles was a Past District Deputy and member  of the Cedar Grove Elks #2237  and a former drum  major of the Essex County Shillelagh Pipe 13, and was active in numerous civic organizations over the years. Donations to the Elk's Veteran's Committee or Special Needs Children c/o Cedar Grove Elks, 405 Bowden Road, Cedar Grove, NJ in Dad's name would be appreciated.
