OBITUARY
OF
Barbara Allin Homme
Barbara Allin Homme of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, passed away on October 30, 2012. Barbara was born May 13, 1929 to parents George F. Allin and Mildred g. Allin (maiden name Bunnell, descended from Bunnell Ancestors who came to New England British colonies long before the American Revolution) residing in Lynbrook, Long Island, New York. Barbara is survived by her husband, Arthur C. Homme, Jr., of Basking Ridge - A marriage of 65 years -; son, Arthur C. Homme, III, of Santee, CA; Daughter, Jennifer C. Paragone, of Glastonbury, CT; four grandsons, and three Great-grand sons all residing in Connecticut; a sister, Ruth Hothersall of Basking Ridge; a brother, Rev. Robert B. Allin of Midlothian, VA. Barbara graduated from the Lynbrook Public High School, class of 1946. then attended Potsdam State Teachers College, Potsdam, NY. Higher education was interrupted by marriage to Arthur in 1947, but resumed in 1962 with night classes at Farleigh Dickinson University, Madison, NJ. Barbara graduated magna cum laude, Class of 1967, with a B.S. in Education. She taught at Hilltop School, Mendham, NJ. for two years, then relocated to Bedminster School, Bedminster, NJ where she taught 4th Grade until July of 1977. Barbara was very fond of children, and also loved little wild animals such as the chipmunks she tamed. She was a Girl Scout troupe leader, loved swimming, crewed for her husband in many national championship regattas of the Flying Tern sloop sailboat class, an avid fiction reader, and an enthusiastic football fan of the NY Jets and Giants. In 2010 she resumed the playing of pool (a skill learned as a child) at the Somerset County Senior Wellness Center, Mt. Airy Road, Basking Ridge. A spectator, knowledgeable in the sport, said Barbara was the "'best shooter' surpassing all the men including her husband". Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, Inc. 101 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge ( 908-766-0250) is handling the services. The public is invited to the funeral home for a service at 1:00 PM, Friday November 9, 2012. The Reverend Robert B. Allin will provide the messages. Interment will take place at the Somerset Hills Memorial Park, 95 Mt. Airy Road.
