Obituary of John A Collier

John A. Collier, of Basking Ridge, N. J. and Hobe Sound, Fl. passed away on September 29, 2012 at Morristown Medical Center . Mr. Collier was born October 1, 1932 in New York City, first born of John and Catherine Ormsby Collier. On May 9, 1959 he married Rosemary Duggan at St. Bartholomews R.C. Church in Elmhurst, Queens, N.Y . He attended St. Margaret's grammar school in the Bronx and graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in 1950. He went to Fordham University Business School at nights and graduated In 1955 with a BS. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. In 1959 he joined J.J. Kenny, municipal bond brokers, from which he retired as Executive VP in 1990. He was a member of The Municipal Bond Club of New York. He had been a member of Morris County Golf Club in Convent Station, N.J. He was an active member of St. James Church, Basking Ridge and St. Christophers in Hobe Sound, Fl. In addition to his wife, survivors include Deirdre Collier and her husband Robert Bohrer, their children, Claire Marie, Robert and Charles; Rosemary Brennan and her husband Terence, their children Katherine and Margaret; John Duggan and his wife, Elizabeth Hazen Collier and their daughter, Erin. His sister, RoseAnn predeceased him and his sister Catherine (Steve) Hertz and brother, Robert F. (Patricia) Collier survive as do many nieces, nephews and cousins. John was an automobile enthusiast and voracious reader with a wide range of interests. He loved music and his collection moved from records to 8 tracks, to tapes, CD's and finally this summer he was transferring it all to his Ipod. He was a wonderful family man, friend and truly a gentleman who will be sorely missed. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Wed. Oct 3, 2012 10:00AM at the Church of St. James, 184 South Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ, burial following the mass at Holy Cross Cemetery, Basking Ridge, NJ. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with John's family on Tuesday Oct. 2 2-4 and 6-8PM at the Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finely Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ.
