Obituary of Matthew Samuels

Matthew Fox Samuels, 29, of Liberty Corner, N.J., passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023.

A service to remember Matthew will be held at New Jersey National Golf Club’s Red Oak Grill in Basking Ridge on Thursday, April 13 at 6 p.m.

Matthew was born in Morristown Hospital to Mark and Keri Samuels on Oct. 10, 1993. He went to high school at Ridge High and graduated in 2012. He earned a Bachelor of Science in physics at James Madison University in 2016, and a Master of Science in computer/information technology administration and management from the University of Maryland Global Campus in December 2022. Matthew was employed with Everest Insurance for nearly six years and most recently held the title of senior business analyst.

Golf was a hallmark of Matthew’s life. From an early age, he spent summers with his family at Fox Hollow Golf Club, and then was a member at New Jersey National. He lettered on the varsity golf team for multiple years while at Ridge and competed on a club team at JMU. At Fox Hollow, Matthew was club champion in 2013. He also won multiple club and amateur events, including the 2018 New Jersey state father and son net championship.

Matthew had a great love for animals and owned a greyhound named Gorgeous. He also enjoyed rock climbing, traveling, and attending concert festivals.

Matthew will be remembered by family, friends, and coworkers as a devoted, intelligent, and passionate person. He was a dedicated friend who cared deeply for those around him and was always pursuing the next adventure. The family wishes to thank those who were involved in Matthew's life and made it better.

Matthew is survived by his parents, Mark and Keri, older brother and sister in-law, Christopher and Katie, nephew Benjamin and a soon-to-arrive niece.
