Obituary of Elizabeth Doherty
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Elizabeth (Lillian) Doherty nee Geraghty on August 16th, 2022 at Morristown Memorial Hospital just a few days shy of her 91st birthday.
Elizabeth was born August 21st, 1931 in Ballyhaunis, County Mayo Ireland to Dominick and Elizabeth Geraghty. She came to the United States in 1949 and lived in Montclair and Bloomfield, NJ before moving to Lake Hiawatha , NJ 24 years ago.
Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents and sisters, Vera Waldron, Belinda Bowen and Christine Elwood of Ireland, and Greta Weafer and Bernadine McDermott of the States.
She leaves to cherish her memory to her husband of 65 years, Charles, her daughter Diane (Michael) Scanniello of Lake Hiawatha, NJ, her son Kevin and his late wife Patricia of Bloomfield, NJ, her grandchildren Jamie (Peter) Gibfried of Randolph, NJ, Robert (Jacqueline) Schneider of Tinton Falls, NJ, Matthew (Debbie) Doherty of Bloomfield, NJ, Samantha and Corrine Doherty of Bloomfield, NJ, and her great grandchildren, Madison and Harper Gibfried, Colton Doherty and Ella Doherty. She also leaves behind many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews both here and in Ireland.
Elizabeth was an amazing woman with a very generous heart. All that knew her loved her.
Funeral Services have been made private for family and close friends. In remembrance, kindly send donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
