Peter Downs Rady. Will be remembered as the one who brought smiles and laughter to everyone he touched.
I met Pete later in life. He was a dear friend of my wife, Elizabeth. Before I ever met Pete I heard the many stories from ISU and his Kappa Sigma days.
Once I got to know Pete I got to experience the many stories he was in the center of. Pete was a true raconteur. He was authentic, colorful and could spin anecdotes with hilarity. He truly was the life of the party. The straw that stirred any crowd he was around. His gravelly voice and trademark laugh are what I’ll miss the most.
I’ll share one classic Rady story, I’m sure many of you have heard. He was proud of his idea to rent a portable toilet to be ‘parked’ at the Kappa Sigma
site for homecoming. He reasoned that this would draw in women needing to use the facilities. He and his fraternity brothers would, of course, invite the girls to join the party. A picture of him in his ‘wife beater’ next to his beloved ‘Beemer’ and Porta John got quite a rise out of him.
Although Pete was from New Jersey He was pure Chicago. He had friends in every corner. Whenever we were downtown we’d stop by Pippin’s or the Lodge and get a load of laughs from Rady. His absence leaves a void in the city that won’t be filled.
My deepest condolences to Pete’s mom, brothers and all who loved him.
I will truly miss Peter Downs Rady but will always treasure the smiles he left behind.

My heart goes out to all the family and friends who loved Pete. He made such a lasting impression among his Chicago 'family' and won't soon be forgotten. I'll always remember him for his boyish charm, mischieviousness, and humor which were only rivaled by his good heart and loyalty. My deepest sympathies to the family.

Peter and I had some really great times, travelling together and lots of firsts! I got to take him to Disneyland, Hearst Castle and Universal Studios! So many great memories with Peter from Cubs and Sox games to trips to Michigan. We are all still in shock in Chicago and we will miss his sense of humor, his dancing skills, witty banter etc. He was one of a kind and will be very missed. My condolences to you all

Pete and I connected in the early '80's in Chicago and that started a friendship that lasted through the years. He visited my wife Dodie and me several times after we moved to Colorado - always camping, fishing, and connecting with other friends he had out here. It was a blessing of good vibes and great humor and laughs every time he visited. His spirit will carry on through our Ultimate teammates (Coyotes forever!), our great group of social friends in Chicago, and every time I get to camp out in a new spot here in CO. Rest easy Pete.....see you at the next camping spot.

Peter would always call me and say “I’m coming home! Save the date and let’s get a group together!”. I’ll miss that call and how he could bring us all together and truly listen to everyone and care so deeply about us all. A truly sensitive man with a heart of gold. My condolences to the Rady family and all of the countless people he touched. Love you Pete! Kimmy (only he could get away with calling me that after all these years!).

Pete was a part of our family, thanks to my brother Craig, who’s friendship with him goes back many years. From raft trips, the rib fests and family gatherings I was very honored to share many happy, fun filled times with him. Earlier on my fond memory of Pete is when he reorganized my packing my car. We were driving to Wisconsin for a raft trip and he needed to be sure Bogart was comfortable! He had a huge heart and love for life, he will certainly missed, rest in piece my other little brother. Visiting Uncle Pete in Chicago has many memories: going with Mommom, going to baseball games and the aquarium, and then finally as an adult several times while I completed my Masters at Indiana State. I brought my dog Bubba Lou, who loved to romp with Bogart and Indy- Uncle Pete’s dogs. He often visited for Christmas and we laughed and shook our heads in dismay at his constant stories and colorful jokes. I also remember how touched Mommom was when he called when there was a famous Yankee in his bar, and said, “Wait, we have to call my mom.” My father loved him, and always will, his adored and often pain in the a** youngest brother!
