I was privileged to have known Bill and work with him. The man had a high level of integrity and spoke with a great sense of knowledge. I miss our conversations....

I am so sad to hear of Bill's passing. I am the one who nominated him for the DAR Medal of Honor years ago. Getting his application together and getting to be in Constitution Hall when he received the award is one of the highlights of my life. He was gracious enough to come to TX and speak to our chapter luncheon at South Fork in Dallas, TX. I moved from TX to Utah in 2012 and became DAR chapter regent in Provo. He made another portrait of George Washington for my chapter which we gifted to a disadvantaged school in Provo. Now I am recently the Utah State Regent for DAR and I wanted to have Bill make more portraits for more schools here in Utah. I have been trying for days to contact him by every way I had contact information for him. As a last resort, I decided to google his name and found his obituary today, 29 July 2022. To Merrill and family, I am so sorry for your loss. He was a wonderful American and made my life much richer for having known him . You have my heartfelt condolences and prayers for Heavenly Father to comfort and guide you.
Sincerely.

Bill and I go way back. All the back to high school in fact. After college, Bill and I were apartment roommates for several years. One day back in 1974 Bill said he came across a new pair of hiking boots and did I want to buy them for $10. They fit perfectly and were terrific quality and I gave him the $10. Since then, over the past 48 years I hiked with them in New Hampshire, on parts of the Appalachian Trail, the Poconos, the Wasatch mountains in Utah, the Cascades, Alaska. Hawaii, Yosemite- literally everywhere. So the last time I saw Bill was a few years ago and I mentioned all the places I had worn the boots and what a great $10 deal it was all those years ago. Being the ever shrewd and funny guy that he was, he said I think I undercharged you and you should pay me an additional 50 bucks. We had a good laugh and was just another example of his wonderful sense of humor that went with his distinctive and terrific laugh. RIP my old friend- gonna miss you. Oh and I’ll think about bringing that $50 with me to heaven next time we meet.

Bill was an exceptional person. Life is complex enough but he had no hidden agendas ,making him the most honest trustworthy person I have ever known. In our many business dealings together I could always count on Bill to give 100%.On the lighter side i remember during our Vegas conventions when I needed to find Bill in the casino I would stand in a corner waiting to hear his distinctive laugh. Bill was very special to me and I will miss him a lot.
