Obituary of John F Surano

John F. Surano, 77, of Basking Ridge, New Jersey passed away on November 27, 2021. John was born on March 18, 1944 in Newark, New Jersey. In 1961, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served overseas in the Pacific until 1966. After his service, John resided in South Orange before moving to Basking Ridge in 1981. John had a distinguished fifty year career as an insurance agent, executive and brokerage owner/principal of both Corporate Coverages, Inc. and The Foster-Thomson Agency. He was a devout Catholic and a member of Our Lady of the Mount Roman Catholic Church. As a church volunteer, John enjoyed helping others by driving those in need to their doctor’s appointments. John contributed to many different charities including Toys for Tots, Market Street Mission, Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation and local area churches. John was a self made, industrious man who enjoyed spending time with his family. Many wonderful memories were created with him at the beach and boardwalks of the Jersey Shore. His spirit for adventure saw his achievement of his instrument rated pilots license and he enjoyed captaining his cabin cruiser along the coast. He was an avid reader and firearms collector and often enjoyed spending time at the range. John, a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather was predeceased by his parents Anthony and Helen, his brother Alfred and daughter Kristin. He is survived by his loving wife of many years, Donna, his children, John, Karin, Susan, stepdaughter Katie, and his brother Tony and sister Mary. He will be greatly missed by his grandson, Jack and granddaughter, Madison. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021, 11:00am, at Our Lady of the Mount Chapel, 167 Mt Bethel Rd, Warren, NJ 07059.
