Obituary of Mary Ann Schachter

Mary Ann Schacter, 64, of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, passed away on November 22 peacefully in her home. A funeral service will be held at St. James Church on November 26 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park. For further information, or to leave an online condolence message please visit www.gcfuneralhome.com Mary Ann was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey to Edwin and Ann Laskowski on November 14, 1957. She went to high school at Benedictine Academy, in Hillside New Jersey. She went on to earn a degree from Kean University and a masters in Social Work from Fordham University. She worked as a nursing home administrator for many years until retirement. She enjoyed spending time at the pool or beach and could often be found at the penny slots at the Sands Casino. She adored hosting her family in her home, especially Thanksgiving and devoted her time to her family and good friends. Mary Ann was a staunch advocate for her son with Autism. Mary was a long time supporter of the Special Olympics. It was her goal that her son had as many opportunities as possible including many train adventures to live his best life. Mary Ann is survived by her loving husband Jeffrey of 35 years, her beloved son Jonathan, sister Barbara Bodnar and brother-in-law John Bodnar of Little Silver, New Jersey .Also surviving are her nieces, Stephanie and Jared Ruez of Franklin, Tennessee and Amiee and John Maddox of Southbury, Connecticut and many great nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves behind a dear friend, Gale Braunstein. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Scott in 2020. Memorial donations can be made to the Special Olympics of Somerset County, New Jersey.
