Obituary of Walter P Caruso, III

Dr. Walter P Caruso III of Bernardsville died suddenly on Friday October 15th, 2021. He was 76 years old. Born and raised in East Orange, Walter was a graduate of Clifford J Scott High School and Upsala College. He began his career as a History teacher in several schools, including Bailey Ellard and East Orange Catholic High. After obtaining his Doctor of Education degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University he went on to serve as Director of Special Services in Hanover Township, Pompton Lakes, Wayne and Highland Park School Districts. Walter dedicated his life and career to helping and educating students, especially those with special needs. He is predeceased by his parents Walter P and Katherine (Conlon) Caruso. He is survived by his beloved son Theodore, his sister Barbara Caruso and his former wife Elizabeth Caruso. He is also survived by his Caruso and Ford cousins: George, Naila, Clancy, Kathy, Meg and Anne Marie along with their spouses and children. Water spent his life caring for the needs of his family and friends. He took on the role of caretaker and always answered the call no matter what time of day or night. Besides his great love of family and family history he enjoyed listening to classical music and his favorite Elvis Presley, as well as taking his RV on road trips. Walter’s lifelong passion was family history and genealogy, and he took great pride in tracing his family’s direct paternal line back to 1026. He was proud of his own academic accomplishments but his proudest moment was attending his son’s graduation from college. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday November 6, 2021 from 12-3pm at Gallaway & Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ.
