Obituary of Panagiotis Sgourdas

Panagiotis "Peter" Sgourdas, 88, of West Orange NJ passed away peacefully on October 5,2021. Peter was born on November 17,1933 in Vrisa, Mytilene, Greece, to the late Giorgios and Zographia Sgourdos. A tailor by trade, he immigrated to this country in his early 20's and fulfilled his American dream by working hard to provide for his family, buying a home and raising three successful children. He will be missed by his family and all that knew him. Peter loved all animals, especially his sidekick cat Prinia. He enjoyed spending time outside in his garden planting tomatoes and many other various vegetables. He would happily share these with neighbors and friends because he was so proud of what he grew. Peter is survived by his son George Sgourdas and his wife Renee of Pine Bush NY, his son, Anthony Sgourdas and wife Lisa of Washingtonville NY, and his daughter Maria Sgourdas of Basking Ridge, NJ. Peter is also survived by 5 grandchildren. Friends are welcome to join in celebrating Peter's life on Monday, October, 11, 2021 at St. Nicholas, Constantine and Helen Church, 80 Laurel Ave, Roseland, NJ 07068 from 10:00am - 12:00pm. Funeral Service will follow at 12:00pm with an internment immediately following at Somerset Hills Memorial Park 95 Mt. Airy Road, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Alzheimer's Association Greater New Jersey Chapter 23 Vreeland Rd #105, Florham Park, NJ 07932 in honor of Peter Sgourdos.
