Obituary of Donald W Ferry

Donald W. Ferry passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on the morning of June 22, 2012 at the Frederick Living Community in Frederick, PA. Don grew up in West Orange, New Jersey before graduating from Rutgers University. Mr. Ferry went on to serve his country in the Korean War as an officer in the United States Air Force. Don retired from the Air Force Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel after thirty years of service. He remained active in the Air Force even after retirement by working for the United States Air Force Academy as a Liaison Officer and volunteering at the Valley Forge Military Academy. Don spent over fifty years as an educator at Bernard High School as a teacher, coach and Athletic Director. He was a long time football coach at Bernards, Chatham, and Mt Lakes High School. Don also founded and coached the Varsity Ski Team at Bernards High School. After retiring from coaching, he stayed active in athletics by volunteering with the Bernards High School Ice Hockey, Lacrosse teams and was the Bernards Rotary Track Meet starter for many years. Mr. Ferry was a long time resident of Bernardsville and an active member of the Methodist Church of Basking Ridge. Don is survived by his two sons Bruce and Douglas, his daughter Betsy Stevens and his seven grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Saturday June 30, 2012 at 10:00 am at Bishop Janes United Methodist Church in Basking Ridge, NJ followed by interment in Somerset Hills Memorial Park, Basking Ridge.
