Obituary of Richard C Manz
Richard (Dick) C. Manz, 88, Harding Twp., NJ, passed away on June 9th, 2020, in Morristown Medical Center.
Richard was born in Irvington, NJ, to Emma Nate and August Manz on October 3rd, 1931. He attended Irvington High School and while working at DuPont, attended night school to earn his BS from Seton Hall. Dick then proudly worked as a chemist at AT&T Bell Laboratories for 35 years. He was in the Army Reserves 494th Postal Unit. As an avid skier, he enjoyed instructing at Shawnee Mountain, trading in his skis for stomping grapes for wine making at the age of 81. He loved living at Mount Kemble Lake which fueled his passion for sailing, canoeing, swimming and lake parties. He called The Lake home for 55 years.
Dick loved being known as a “character” and his family and friends meant everything to him. Known as “Dexter” and “PopPop” to his kids, grandkids and their friends, he was loved by all and made an imprint wherever he went. He embraced everyone into his world, staying close to high school friends, ski buddies, wine making crew, neighbors and was an adopted member of Gettysburg College Class of ‘70.
Richard is survived by his wife Cindy May Manz of Harding Twp.; daughter Laura Manz and her son Andrew of San Diego; son Richard Manz of Somerville, his fiancée Kristi DeBias of Branchburg and his sons Alexander, Gregory, and Douglas of Somerville; son Garry, his wife Chrisanne and their daughter Julia of Lake Hopatcong; brother August Manz of Union and his sons August and Paul Manz and their families of Flemington and Frelinghuysen; sister-in-law Penni, her husband Robert Hanson of Howell Twp. and their four sons: Henry, Peter, Greg, and Scott Hanson and their families of Flanders, Toms River, Mt. Holly, and Howell Twp.
A celebration of Richard’s Life will be held at a later date. A private burial will be held at Fair View Cemetery, Westfield.
