Obituary of Gordon B Clark

Gordon B. Clark, age 92, of Basking Ridge, NJ, passed away peacefully at his home on August 10, 2019.  Born in Massachusetts and raised in Southampton, he grew up during the Great Depression.  After high school, Gordon followed his older brother into the US Navy and served at the end of WWII in the Pacific.  Upon his return, he attended Lafayette College in Easton, PA, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and went to work for Esso Research and Engineering in Linden, NJ, where he met his future wife of 58 years, Eleanor Sulon.  They moved to Warren, NJ, and raised a family.  Gordon coached youth sports, was a Lieutenant in the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps, and served on the Warren School Board, both as a member and as its President.  In the latter role he oversaw the building and completion of the Mount Horeb Middle School.  Following a three-year assignment in Seabrook, TX, he and his family returned to NJ and settled in Basking Ridge.  Gordon received his Master’s Degree in Engineering Contract Management from the Newark College of Engineering, and later in his career traveled the world, providing engineering expertise and contract management support for the Alyeska Pipeline in Alaska, the North Sea oil fields, and projects in North Africa, Italy and Malaysia.  Upon retirement from Exxon, he volunteered extensively at Bishop Janes UMC.  Throughout his life he loved God, his family, his country, and remained a loyal Boston Red Sox supporter.  He is preceded in death by his parents of Southampton, MA, his wife, and his older brother, and is survived by two sisters, five children, eight grandchildren and two great-grand daughters.  A memorial service will be scheduled in October.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to either the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills, 200 Mount Airy Road, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920 - https://donatenow.networkforgood.org/visitingnurse or the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation, 57 W 57th St Suite 904, New York, NY 10019 - https://www.alzdiscovery.org/donate.
