I am deeply saddened to learn of Mr. Vernon's passing today. I met Mr. Vernon at the elementary school where he picked up his grandson while I picked up my daughter. He was very nice & I learned quite a bit from our brief educational conversations while waiting for the children. My sincerest condolences to the family. Thank you for your exceptional service to our country. May you rest in eternal love & peace Mr. Vernon

Dad with every passing day since you left us, I think about you, and miss you so much. You were my rock, and my water, in understanding the importance of remaining steady in this life. The life you lived, and the unselfish depths of how you gave, and taught so many - will never be forgotten. As I work each day to put your lessons into practice - I'll continue to give careful thought about my own life and the changes I will make to better myself. Soar high, and continue to guide others, me, your grandchildren and all that came along your path with your everlasting spirit. I love you so much. I know in my heart I gave you the best send off a son could give a father- peace & kindness, Mark

I worked with Vern at MITRE, including closely with him over several summers at Fort Dix. He was a wonderful coworker and an even better person. After reading this obituary, I realize that he was much more humble than I had even realized. I now understand how he could remain so calm and collected during even the most chaotic times at work.
Vern was someone that always had the answers, but didn't make you feel bad for not knowing them. He was a fantastic mentor, and I looked up to him with enormous respect.
My sincere condolences for your loss.

As a fellow retired AF colonel, I am sorry to hear of Vernon's passing. I am all to familiar with the rigors of military life and am proud of the man who put the uniform on and served his country valiantly. I'm sure St Peter was at the gates of heaven to make sure the gates were open for him. Please pass my wife Suzee's and my condolences to a great American and hero to the family.

Vern was a gentleman , an officer / public servant , family man and friend . He will be missed for his kindness , ready smile , engaging conversations and willingness to be helpful to his many friends . I will miss him . I spoke to him last year when he called me . We immediately and easily engaged in a nice chat even though a few years had passed since we had seen each other . May he rest in peace and his family be comforted in having had such a fine person in their lives who is widely respected . Danny DeMarinis

Mark, Frankie, and all of Vern's family, you have my sincere sympathy on his passing. He was a very special man. Vern and I flew together in AC-130A Gunships and were together the night we were shot down. That gave us something of a special bond. His obituary mentions some of his military decorations, but he also wore another special ribbon. He was part of the 16th Special Operations Squadron when it earned the Presidential Unit Citation for extraordinary heroism, the nation's highest unit award for gallantry in action, and thus entitled to wear it permanently. Vern was a real warrior and a true gentleman. It was an honor to serve with him, and a great honor to have him as a friend. Rest well, Vern. Your spirit now soars with the eagles in a peaceful sky.

Bryan, I am so very sorry for your loss...he's with your sweet mom, Emily, and Vernon and George. I'm sure that your Dad and my Dad had a great reunion, catching up on their adventures in Vietnam. They were the Dynamic Duo. May your Dad rest in eternal sleep.

So sorry to hear of Vern's passing. He and I were very close while we worked at MITRE, and he ALWAYS showed me a good time when I visited the Ft. Monmouth site. In addition to being an outstanding employee, he was a true "patriot" and an all around "solid and good guy."
He will be missed by his family and friends. Indeed, I will truly miss him.

I am sorry to hear about your loss and wish all his family members the very best. I only knew Vern for a short time, but feel we became close friends in that time we shared together. Vern and I would sit next to each other at our second Monday of the month helicopter luncheon. I flew Hueys in Vietnam, but at one point in my military career I flew as a C-130 Flight Engineer so many time we talked about our love of that aircraft! It also helped sitting next to Vern because we were both hard of hearing from all the years we spent in aviation in the military! He will be sorely missed at on Monday Luncheons!!! Rest In Peace my Brother!!!! He was and always will remain the Senior Member of our Helicopter Restoration Crew!!!

I will never forget all the wonderful things Mr. Vern taught me administratively. He was so gentle and kind and had patience that ran as deep as the oceans.
I worked with Mr. Vern at The MITRE Corporation for many years and never once did I hear an unkind word spoken by him about anyone, and that to me is the definition of integrity which is almost impossible to find in today's world.
I will surely miss Mr. Vern and will never forget the man that followed the rules of life to the very end. Mr. Vernon E. O'Meally, a man of standard high above many and a gift of understanding and determination that always found the answer.
The world has an empty space left by a dedicated and loyal giant of a man.
