Obituary of Eileen C Arntz

 Eileen Arntz (Eileen Catherine Condra), 95, died peacefully at her home in Hunt Community, Nashua, N.H., on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. 

  Born in Richmond Hill, Long Island N.Y. on June 25, 1923, the only child of Thomas M. Condra and May Amanda Holmgren, weighing 2.4 pounds, she was carried in a shoe box and rushed by her father to be placed in Dr. Martin Couney’s Incubator Baby Exhibit at Coney Island, a maneuver that certainly saved her life.  

  In 1942 she graduated from The Mary Louis Academy in Jamaica, Queens going on for a degree in early education from St. Joseph’s in Brentwood, N.Y..

  During World War II she was employed by ARMA Corporation Defense in Brooklyn and later worked on Madison Avenue for Young and Rubicam Advertising, then for US Life Insurance.

  In 1950 she married Irving Thor (Sonny) Arntz, moving to N.J. where he was a long time Bernardsville resident. She became bookkeeper for her husband’s dairy distributorship and while raising four children was active in the community volunteering in many capacities. 

  Drawn back to teaching she was employed at Mt. St. John Academy, Gladstone, N.J. and also worked at Kate Macy Ladd Convalescent Home, Far Hills, N.J..

  She was a communicant at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in both Richmond Hill and Bernardsville and St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Far Hills.

  In retirement Eileen and Sonny moved to Nashua, N.H., residing at The Hunt Community they became involved with the marketing program, attracting prospective residents to their wonderful home. 

  She enjoyed travel, especially the years they trailered around the country. She also adored her role as matriarch finding great joy in being around her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

  A devoted wife, she was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, “Sonny” Arntz in 2005, son-in-law, Randel D. Cameron in 2017, sister-in-law, Elizabeth Arntz Reeves, brother-in-law, Arthur A. Arntz, nephews, William Reeves and Willard Arntz and cousin Matthew Fegan 

  Surviving are her sons, Stephen Arntz and wife Connie, of San Ramon, C.A., Donald Arntz and wife Denise, of Succasunna, N.J., Chris Arntz and wife Suzanne, of Lebanon, N.J.; daughter, Dorothy (Dodie) Cameron, of Bedford, N.H.; six grandchildren, Chip and (Adrienne) Cameron, Brian and (Sarah) Cameron, Katie and (Ben) Spires, Heather Arntz and Noelle and Danny Arntz; nine great-grandchildren, Michael, Stella, Nathan, Nora, Kylie and Keira Cameron, and Sam, Callie and Luke Spires. Eileen is also survived by 3 step-children, Irving Thor (Tommy) Arntz and wife Gail, Joan Arntz Beesly and husband Casper, and James Arntz and wife Irene.  

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 Noon on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018 at The Shrine of St. Joseph, 1050 Long Hill Rd., Stirling, N.J.. Interment will follow at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, 95 Mt. Airy Rd., Basking Ridge, N.J.. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Willard Arntz Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o The Peapack Reformed Church, P.O. box 253, Gladstone, N.J. 07934.
