Obituary of Barbara Jean Wilber

Bernards Township – Barbara Jean (Stryker) Wilber, aged 79, of Basking Ridge died on Wednesday July 18, 2018 after a long illness at her residence. Born in Elizabeth, N.J., a graduate of Battin High School, Class of 1956. After high school she started her career at Howard Savings Bank in Newark. In 1961 she married Bruce Wilber and they lived in South Amboy, Eatontown, and Navesink before moving to Basking Ridge in 1983. Barbara retired from AT&T in 2006 after 25 years of service. She worked at several locations in Basking Ridge, and when she retired was working at AT&T Aviation in Morristown, where she was the Flight Operations Manager.

She loved to travel, frequently visiting her grandchildren in Massachusetts, and family in the South. Lifelong card players, Barbara enjoyed spending her retirement with Bruce attending Rotary conferences throughout the Northeast and going to different casinos. She also had memorable trip with her daughters to Paris several years ago. An active church member at both Tower Hill Presbyterian Church in Red Bank, NJ and Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church, where she prepared meals for youth groups, served as a Deacon and was active with the women’s bible study.

She is survived by her beloved husband Bruce and they would have enjoyed 57 years of marriage in September; her daughter Debra Jean Wilber and her finance Kevin Moulton, her son B. Douglas Wilber, and daughter Denise Lynn Schultz and son in-law James Schultz, Jr. and grandchildren Connor and Mikaela. Sister of Donald Stryker (Jo-ann), and Thomas Stryker (Joyce). She is predeceased by her sister, Alice Haines and her husband Clarence Haines. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Barbara was a devoted Grandmother (Nanny) to Connor and Mikaela Schultz, spending many vacations with them at Disney World, where she enjoyed eating churros and ice cream, and enjoying all the rides. Nanny made many trips to visit her grandchildren over 19 years, never going more than a couple months without spoiling them.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday July 21, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Galllaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge, NJ. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM & 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Somerset Hills Memorial Park Mausoleum, Basking Ridge.
