Dad, you are the greatest! A true pioneer in your surgery and with your family. You have made this world a better place to live-not only for your family but also for your patients and those benefitting from your innovative surgical techniques and development of surgical instruments used throughout the world. You have always lead by example. Your wisdom, judgment and strength will be with me every day of my life. I love you dad.

Dad, You were so loving and so loved. I thought every girl had a Dad just like you and boy was I shocked when I found out that was not true. You were such an example to all of us. Words can't describe how I will miss you.
Until we meet again,

Brad and Parker Lewis posted a condolence
Grandpa,
There is so much to say, but one memory Parker and I will be able to share and discuss for a lifetime is our extensive trips to Europe with you and Grandma. I personally will never forget the way you navigated through various countries on foot (to the point where both Parker and I were mentally and physically exhausted hours before you and Grandma were, and trust me I am still in awe), knew all the best places to eat, and bargained with the natives without speaking the same language. I believe that to be a metaphor for the way you lived your life. You taught both of us that we can do anything we set our minds to, and have a great time while doing so. Parker and I are both so proud of you and everything you accomplished in your lifetime. I see so much of your wisdom in my father, and I pray that I should be lucky enough to have your traits passed on to me and Parky as well. We both love you very much. You will be in our hearts and minds forever.
Love,
Brad and Parker
P.S. I still show off the secret shot you taught me on the pool table! (and don't worry, I give you full credit for it every time)

Dear Grandpa,
I love you so so much. I just wanted to tell you that I look up to you and I would like to be a doctor just like you. I was always so fascinated with what you did and how much you acomplished. You are my inspiration.
I also loved listening to all your stories whether it was about the time you went skiing with your kids, the time you acted like a FBI when the man was following you, or even when grandma gave you more mash patatoes then you could eat in your whole life; I always loved to hear your stories.
I also loved your jokes, your sence of humor, and your personality. One of my favorite times was at the American Girl Restauraunt and they did not have enough pretzels for us. You were always so kind and pleasent to be around.
I remember sleeping over your house with Helen numerous times, we would always come down to greet you(who was usualy downstairs drinking tea and reading your newspaper) and grandma(who was in the kitchen helping us get prepared for the day.) Helen and I would always come down and see who could hug you the longest and then we would talk about the day and laugh. We would always encourage you to tell a joke and your funny stories. We would always have so much fun.
I also loved when we played chess together; i might not be quite as good as you and Connor but I sure am working on it and will never give up.
I will always cherish my extravigant memories with you. I hope to be such a kind, loving, and acomplished person as you.
I love you so much and I always will. You were an extraordinary man and the best grandfather a girl could ever ask for. I love you with all my heart.
Love,
Gwyneth Ann

My father in law was the most important person in just about every room he walked into. He had the best education, the most accomplishments, personal and professional, and he possessed a surgeon's god like power to save a life. However, if you were in the room with my father in law he made you, or your child or spouse, feel as if it was YOU who was the most important person in the room. He was full of so much confidence, kindness and goodness that he had enough of it to share with everyone he cared about. It was a blessing to have him and it is bitter to lose him. Now heaven has a most important person in its room.
We all love you very much.

Dad-
You were the most amazing father- I loved being your little girl. I was always so proud to be your daughter. Whenever I said I was Dr Lewis' daughter, doors opened!! The example you set for our family was something John and I will carry on in our family. You taught me to be honest, humble, true, kind and giving. You will be missed more than words can say. Your gentle guidance in every aspect of my life will remain in my heart forever. Even though I cannot ask your advice in person anymore- I will speak to you through our hearts. I love you dad- as we waved goodbye to you- many others were waving hello and welcoming you home. I know you are now at peace. All my love, Kim

Dear Dad, I don't know where to begin except I miss you so much already. You are the best father-in-law any girl could ask for. Just ask any of my friends they could not understand how I lucked out to have a great father-in-law and a great mother-in-law in the same house! I am one lucky girl to have had so many beautiful years with you in my life and treasure that I have your son and can continue to see you in him every day. Which by the way is a little scary since I now know where he gets all his mischievousness from! I love you Dad.

Grandpa, I love you so much, always have, always will. I will always keep you in my heart, and absolutely never forget you. You were such a caring, loving man. I have a great amount of memories of you. My most fondest memory of you, was when my parents went for a walk, and I was home alone with a friend over. I smelled something that smelt like gas, I didn't know what to do because I didn't want a fire to start. I remember my first thought was to call my loving grandparents, because they always know what to do. When I called over there you answered the phone. I told you everything that was happening, still smelling the smell of gas. You told me to just hang on and everything will be fine. You always gave me such comforting thoughts. I told you thank you and I love you. You then asked me if I wanted you to stay on the phone with you until your parents come back. I remember that that made me feel so loved, knowing he wouldn't want anything to happen to me. I said no thanks, but thanks. I was so thankful that day to have my grandfather comfort me and adore me like that! I have very exciting memories of sleeping over your house. We would always have so much fun. I will never forget when Gwyneth and I tried to teach you and grandma how to text message. That sure wasn't an easy task, but we did teach you both the basics of texting. I also remember when you took Gwyneth, Grandma, and I to the American Girl doll place, you are the only man I knew who would be able to put up with that place. Thank you for coming, you made that trip 100% better! I also remember Gwyneth and I would bring our American Girl dolls up to your house, and after dinner we would put on a show for you and Grandma. I remember you would always clap at the end of those.Thank you for all of the Skytop memories. I just wish that you were here to share many more family memories with me! Grandpa, thank you so much for all the memories you helped create. I loved all your stories, and still do. Grandpa I love you so much! You were a terrific man, who never gave up. I hope to be just like you one day, but I am not quite sure anyone can accomplish what you did! I adore you so much and you will always be with me. I love you so much, and you will forever be in my heart! You created the best family anyone could have ever asked for! I love you to the end of the earth and back!
Love, Helen (Your 8th Grandchild)

In a world, where we struggle to find role-models and leaders who exhibit integrity, honesty, ambition, love and postive thinking our family didn't have to look very far - that idol was our Dad.... Dad you always made the sun-shine in my life and you were my best friend and so much more. Thank you for always being in my corner and showing me what a full and complete life looks like.
I love you and already miss you so much.

Dear Grandpa,
You were the coolest, best, and most awesome grandfather that a boy like me could ever ask for. As many memories as I have of you; they will be heartbreaking. One of them was when we went to the New York Public Library and I was reading a book about a couple escaping from Cuba. Then we had to go pick up Megan, Grandma, and my mom at the American Girl Doll Place and when we had to go to the bathroom and there was only one bathroom for men on the third floor and it was as small as your kitchen table(inside joke.) I know your comforting/smiling face will always be looking down on me. Thank you sooooooooooo much for training me in chess and medicine. love Connor xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

My thoughts are with the family during this most difficult time. I, along with all of you, are saddened by the loss of such a great man. It doesn't seem fair after all he has done for others.
I have nothing but the best of memories as I got to know him over the years. He loved to talk about his surgery and research. As I would ask questions, you could see the enthusiasm and passion. That is what I will remember most. A man totally dedicating his life to helping people. And as genuine and down to earth as they get. I will never forget his friendly tone and big smile. A true "gentleman" if there ever was one.
