Dear Mom,
The last time I visited with you, Mom, the evening of your passing, I stroked your hand and talked to you (not knowing if you could hear me or not). I told you how brave I thought you were and how courageous your many journeys had been so far.
As a young woman you had to flee your home during WWII as the Russians were approaching. And then again as a refugee, how you were so brave to travel to the west zone and then on to America. And then this recent journey that you really didn’t want to take, but knew you had to..the one to a nursing home. I sat there telling you I knew you didn’t want to be there and that I knew that there was one journey left for you to take that would bring you back home. I told you everyone would be there to greet you and that you would be happy again and free of pain. I told you all you had to do was be brave one more time and take that final journey home.
I kissed you goodnight, and said I’d see you tomorrow unless you decided to leave before then and that it would be ok with me if you did. Three hours later I received the call that you had passed away. You had made it back home. Rest in Peace, Mom.
Love Always,
Angi
