Chief,
It was an honor and privilege to have been in the company of you and Carmen throughout our time in little league. Your unwavering guidance, support and friendship is something we will value forever. I will keep in my mind the image of your smiling face during the NHLL's run in the District, Section and State Championship in 2010. If the measure of a man is based on the way he cares for his family, friends and his community, Charlie my friend, you stand as a giant in this arena. We will miss you and remember you forever.

Your dedication to your Country, Police Career and Traffic saved many lives in New Jersey, more than people will ever know. When you see Saint Peter at the gate he will have only one word for you - WELCOME! I feel blessed knowing you and I, among many others, will miss you.

Chief Fortenbacker, you were truly a good friend of mine. At times when we talked you were more like a father to me. I looked forward to those yearly Somerset County Police Chiefs Association luncheons held at the AT&T Basking Ridge Headquarters. May God rest your soul, and I will always remember you my friend.

I had the priviledge and honor of knowing Charlie for nearly 30 years through the NJ Traffic Officers. We served on the Bd of Directors together for many years. I enjoyed seeing and speaking with him at the meetings even after we both retired. He was a true gentleman and was highly respected in the police traffic safety community. My sincerest sympathy to his family. God Bless you Charlie.

I will miss his smile and big hugs. A favorite childhood memory I have of Uncle Charlie was being able to get a glimpse of him in is Police Uniform and Squad Car. I remember kneeling on Aunt Carmen's long, long, long couch so I could look out the window to see him come down the driveway in the Squad Car. I used to tell all my friends that my Uncle Charlie was a Police Officer.

To the Fortenbacker Family:
Your Charley will be missed by MANY of us in the NJ Little League community who thought of him as our "uncle" Charley...who was always there to provide us with his guidance, support, friendship & love thru rough times.
What fun it was to be out in Williamsport PA. and hear our name being called...to then see our "UNCLE" Charley waving us over to come and sit with him in the VIP seats at the Little League World Series.
Charley...your visits to our opening day parades and Playoff games were always a bright moment each year. How much fun did you have riding in the model T with Bobby Thompson ?
MY family and I will ALWAYS remember your wisdom.
THANK YOU for being there.

Chief Charles Jacob Fortenbacker will be alive forever in the memories of all those many persons he embraced, as a most admirable gentleman of the highest honorable character. My family was especially fortunate as living across the street from this nobleman. Mom and Dad were beneficiaries of his kindness and protection. I was unafraid to move out of state, with the Chief as their guardian and with blessed Carmen's goodness well. Though the community dedicate fields or fountains, the debt owed this giant among man shall not be paid. Society is an ocean of emptiness without him. Chief is with the Lord. He has joined with the Angels. "sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ"~Jude 1 God knows, we are in tears 'together suffering' his passing.
