Obituary of Robert P Haycock
Robert Philhower Haycock
Robert Philhower Haycock, 93 of Basking Ridge passed away on Oct. 29, 2011 at Fellowship Village. He had lived in Basking Ridge since 1948.
Mr. Haycock was born in Philadelphia, PA and raised in Oldwick, NJ. He spent the last 6 years at Fellowship Village. He graduated from Purdue University with a BS in Chemistry in 1940 and from Stevens Institute of Technology with a Master degree in Chemistry in 1950. Bob served during WW II as Captain of Chemical Warfare in the US Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946 and spent time in the Pacific War Theater. He was active in civic and community projects. He was a member of the Bernards Twp School Board from 1957 to 1965 where he served as President in 1959 and 1961, the year Ridge High opened. In 1965 Bob joined the Bernards Township Town Council where he served as Police Commissioner as well as Mayor several times. In 1985 he retired from CIBA Geigy as Director of Quality Control. In the early 1990's he again served on the Town Council and was mayor. During his retirement he liked to travel.
He was born to Dr Robert W Haycock and Mrs. Elizabeth Philhower. His siblings Mary Lindabury, Dorothy Vroom, and John Craig Haycock all predeceased him. In 1942 Mr Haycock married Olive B (Johnnie) Eager. She passed in 1979. He is survived by his two daughters, E Carole Haroz and husband Donald of Charlottesville, VA, and Robin Jill Brennan and husband Joseph of Princeton Jct, NJ. He leaves four grandchildren, Audrey Reed of Washington, DC, Sean Brennan and his wife Jennifer of Hoboken, NJ, Todd Brennan of Hoboken, NJ and Daniel Brennan of Princeton Jct, NJ and one great grandchild Charlotte Reed.

Funeral services will be held at Bishop Jane's United Methodist Church, 22 S. Finley Ave, Basking Ridge on Sat Nov. 5 at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at St Bernard's Cemetery, Bernardsville, NJ.
