Obituary of Robert J. Searing

Robert Searing, 83, of Far Hills, NJ passed away on October, 24, 2011, surrounded by his loving family after a happy and fulfilling life. Bob was born in Richmond Hill, NY, the son of Walter and Dorothy Searing. He graduated from John Adams High School and was a member of the New York National Guard. Bob had a long and successful career at Bell Telephone, starting in New York and eventually transferring to New Jersey with his family. Bob married the love of his life, Ann Searing (nee Miller), in 1951; they celebrated their 60th anniversary earlier this year with their family. After retiring from New Jersey Bell Telephone, Bob became a Realtor with Burghdorff Real Estate in Basking Ridge, where he again demonstrated his respect for people and service orientation. Bob cared deeply about the community. Bob served as Councilman in Far Hills Borough for 11 years, establishing his reputation as a committed and dedicated elected official, always looking to serve the community in the best way possible.He was a member of the Board for the Polo Club community.He was also an active volunteer for the VNA of Somerset Hills. Above all, hecherished his wife, children and grandchildren. Bob leaves his wife Ann; his son James and his wife Gayle Goodman of Solebury, PA; daughters Jill and Lisbeth Searing, both of Basking Ridge; his daughter Susan Searing Swanson and her husband Martin Swanson of Simsbury, CT; his daughter-in-law Elaine Searing; his grandchildren, Lisa Searing Simon and her husband Michael Simon, Jessica Searing, Ryan Swanson, William Swanson and Brittany Swanson; his brother George and his wife Jean, of Gainesville, GA, and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church House Parlor on Thursday, October 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. and a Celebration Service of Bob's life will be at the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Churchat 10 a.m. on Friday, October 28.
