Obituary of Sister Rita Krohn
Sister Rita Krohn
August 24, 1930 ~ February 2, 2010
Born in Philadelphia, PA, the older of two children, to Margaretha Scheelck Krohn and Henry Krohn, Rita Anna Meta Krohn was raised in the North Hills, PA area. At age 8, she returned to Germany with her parents and baby brother, settling in Dessau bei Anhalt. After WWII, in September 1946, Sister Rita returned by ship to NY alone, followed by her parents and brother ten years later. Initially she stayed with friends in Woodside, NY and later Glenside, PA. After that she lived with a family in Philadelphia and accompanied them to a Fellowship Chapel of the Deaconry on Wyoming Avenue. It was in January 1848, at an evangelistic meeting held there by Pastor Reitzer, that Sister Rita accepted Jesus into her life as Savior from sin. Soon she knew the Lord was calling her into full-time service as a Deaconess.
Getting her high school equivalency diploma from Temple University, working her way up from stock girl to assistant buyer at Strawbridge and Clothier, and then leaving Pennsylvania to work at our Nursing Home in Bernardsville, NJ, Sister Rita entered the Fellowship Deaconry in Liberty Corner as a Sister on October 17, 1951. Receiving training and serving in various capacities in the Motherhouse, Sister Rita followed the call to go to Japan in September 1964. She was instrumental in planting a church in Toyohama, Shikoku, Japan. After serving there for six years, she returned to the Motherhouse in Liberty Corner to prepare for and assume the role of Directing Deaconess. In September 1973 Sister Rita became Housemother to the Sisters, and continued until her retirement in September 2008.
Surviving are her brother Roy with wife Pamela, nephews David and Mark, and niece Jessica all of the York, PA area. Sister Rita leaves to all of us a legacy of faithfulness to Jesus Christ, as seen in one of her favorite Bible verses found in Colossians 1:18, "that in all things he might have the preeminence." May we also strive to put Jesus first in all things.
