Obituary of John W McGowan, Jr.

John W. McGowan, Jr., 91, died on August 16, 2017, in Lansdale, PA.

Mr. McGowan was born in Brooklyn, NY and grew up in Richmond Hill, Queens, New York.

He served in the Navy during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds sustained in combat in the Pacific.  He was a graduate of Manhattan College, class of 1950.

He worked as an independent insurance adjuster prior to his retirement in 1987.

Mr. McGowan lived in Kew Gardens, NY, Garden City, NY, Livingston, NJ, and Morristown, NJ before moving to Florida in 1987.  He lived in Stuart and Vero Beach, Florida before moving to Lansdale in 2009.

He and his wife, Gloria, were former members of Spring Book Country Club in Morristown and Mariner Sands Golf and Country Club in Stuart.

Mr. McGowan is survived by his daughter Margaret Kohler (Richard) of Califon, NJ, his sons John III of Basking Ridge, NJ, and James (Kathryn) of Mason, Ohio, by seven grandchildren, Brian Kohler (Honora), Leigh McGowan-Carothers (Eric), Michael, Kaitlyn, John, William, and Andrew McGowan, and by one great-granddaughter, Susanna Kohler.  He was predeceased by his wife, Gloria, in 2011 and by his daughter-in-law, Donna Washburn McGowan, in 2002.

Funeral Arrangements have been made private for the family.
