Alexander Mastrobattista, 88, formerly of Center Valley, PA, was called to eternal life on Tuesday March 12, 2013 at Wynwood Montgomery Assistive Senior Living in North Wales, PA, with his family at his side, after a long illness.
Born in Bernardsville, NJ, he was the son of the late Giovanni and Marietta (D'Appollonio) Mastrobattista. He was also the beloved husband of Louise Baldassare Mastrobattista for 59 years. In addition to his wife, Alex is survived by his son David and wife Linda, along with the family's ever faithful and lovable black lab Zuke whom he loved immensely.
Alex served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and earned two Purple Heart medals while participating in the Army's Normandy, Rhineland, and Northern France campaigns before returning to the States in Atlantic City to recover from serious wartime injuries. Following his military service, he earned his B.A. in Accounting at Rider College in 1949. And shortly thereafter returned to Bernardsville, where he was an active member of the St. Elizabeth's Catholic War Veterans as well as a member of the Bernardsville Borough Council in 1953.
After a variety of local jobs in Bernardsville, Alex embarked on a 32-year career with Mack Trucks, Inc. at the company's offices in New York City, Plainfield NJ, Bridgewater NJ, and finally the company's World Headquarters location in Allentown, PA in 1971.
In 1986, Alex retired from Mack Trucks, Inc., and began enjoying his "leisure years" with his wife Louise by working ever-so-meticulously around the grounds and flower gardens of their residence. He was a devoted family man, and will be missed by all who knew him.
